Evaluation Phase

Overview

The Evaluation Phase is the final stage of the ADDIE Model, but it’s also ongoing. It ensures that the instructional design solution is effective and that learning goals are being met.

Purpose of the Evaluation Phase

The goal is to:

  • Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the training or learning program
  • Identify what worked well and what needs improvement
  • Make data-driven decisions for revisions or enhancements

Evaluation occurs before, during, and after instruction, making it a continuous process.

Types of Evaluation

1. Formative Evaluation (During Design & Development)

  • Conducted throughout the ADDIE process
  • Helps identify problems early and improve materials before full implementation
  • Involves:
    • Expert reviews
    • Pilot testing
    • Feedback from peers or small learner groups

2. Summative Evaluation (After Implementation)

  • Conducted after the learning experience
  • Measures overall effectiveness and impact
  • Includes:
    • Learner performance data (quizzes, projects, assessments)
    • Surveys and feedback forms
    • Instructor observations
    • ROI analysis for organizations
